Organization
The Netherlands and the city of Apeldoorn in particular look forward to welcoming you to the 2011 UCI Track Cycling World Championships. With more than 16 million inhabitants and possibly the same amount of bicycles, the Netherlands is a cyclist’s paradise. Our rich cycling tradition also makes the Netherlands the ideal location for this global cycling event, which will be held in an indoor cycling hall in the Netherlands for the first time in history. We are proud to act as host for this event in the multifunctional sport centre Omnisport Apeldoorn.
An event such as the UCI Track Cycling World Championships has considerable allure both at home and abroad. The attention and excitement generated by breathtaking races are of course beneficial to the sport of cycling in general and for track racing in particular. The Municipality of Apeldoorn, the Royal Dutch Cycling Union (KNWU) and the organiser Libéma Profcycling put their heads together and are giving their full support to this unique cycling event. By organising and hosting the UCI Track Cycling World Championships, the Netherlands truly establishes itself as the global hub of the sport of cycling. And with a view to the Dutch 2028 Olympic Plan, the event also underscores our international ambitions.
